The Mountains
Day 1: Mount Takao (Hachioji-city)
Mount Takao is one of the closest natural areas to central Tokyo and has been regarded as a sacred mountain for over 1,000 years, serving as a hub for mountain worship. Near the summit, you will find Yakuoin, a prominent temple where many visitors stop to pray to the Shinto-Buddhist mountain gods known as tengu, seeking good fortune. Statues of these gods, one characterized by a long nose and another with a crow-like beak, can be seen at the temple and at various other locations around the mountain.
Day 2: Mount Mitake (Ome-city)
Since ancient times, Mt. Mitake has developed around Kimpusan Mitake Zao Gongen (the predecessor of Musashi Mitake Jinja Shrine) as a sacred mountain of mountain worship.
On the approach to the 929-meter-high mountain, there are rows of houses of Oshi Priests that have continued to stand since the Edo period (1603-1868), creating a unique landscape unlike any other mountain. Oshi priests offer prayers when supporters spread throughout the Kanto region visit the shrine and also serve lodging and meals.

Day 1 ~Mt. Takao Hiking~
2. Hiking Mt. Takao
Mount Takao offers four trekking trails suitable for hikers of all skill levels, with Trail 1 being the easiest option.
This trail is wide, mostly paved, and passes by all the major sites as it winds its way to the top of the 599-meter-high summit.
3. Visit Temple Takao-san Yakuo-in
Yakuo-in was established in 744 and later restored in 1375. It is renowned for its practice of shugendo, which is a form of mountain asceticism in Buddhism, as well as its devotion to tengu, mythical figures in Shinto belief believed to be messengers of the gods.
4. Take a Cable Car/ *Chair Lift to Climb Down
This is the steepest cable car in Japan climbing the 271m altitude difference between the foot of the mountain which stands at 201m above sea level and the middle point in the mountainside at 472m above sea level in about 6 minutes.
This time, we will take the cable car back down to the foot of the mountain.
* Another ride available: If you choose a chair lift instead of the cable car, you can enjoy the stunning view of the city!
5. Transfer to Mount Mitake by a Private Taxi
After hiking Mt. Takao, we will move to Mt. Mitake cable car station by a private taxi.

6. Take a Cable Car to Climb Up to Mt. Mitake
Take a ride on the steepest cable car in the Kanto region which gains 407m of elevation over a distance of 1,107m.
7. Stay at "Shukubo" Pilgrim's Lodging
Mt. Mitake has long been worshiped as a sacred mountain and Shukubo lodgings are accommodations originally for pilgrims. There are still more than 20 Shukubo remained and you can choose standard class or a deluxe class on this tour.

Day 2 ~Mt. Mitake ~
1. Musashi Mitake Shrine
About 30 minutes walk from the station, the Musashi Mitake Shrine is located on the peak of Mount Mitake and said to be founded over 2,000 years ago.
On the way to the shrine, you will find many historic shukubo lodgings, some souvenir shops and restaurants.
2. Lunch at "Shukubo" the pilgrim’s lodging
Mt. Mitake has long been worshiped as a sacred mountain and there are still more than 20 Shukubo remained.
They serve "Oshi-ryori" a traditional dish which has been served for pilgrims.

3. Takigyo - Japanese Waterfall Meditation
The practice focuses on purifying the body and uniting the spirit. It is a rigorous spiritual exercise where individuals immerse themselves in the intense cold of a waterfall. This method allows participants to confront themselves, offering a means to rejuvenate both mentally and physically. Those who take part in this ritual emerge feeling refreshed and experience a profound sense of accomplishment.
4. JR Mitake Station
After the experience, we will take a cable car and a public bus to reach the station as our final destination.

- If you cancel between 8 and 13 day(s) in advance of the scheduled departure,
there is a 50 percent cancellation fee.
- If you cancel within 7 day(s) of the scheduled departure, there is a 100 percent cancellation fee.
