Meet Mr. & Ms. Hirata
They booked the workshop this time because one of the group members is a hunter with experience in knife making and wanted to focus on crafting a traditional Japanese sword.
All listened with interest and admiration to everything Mr. Hirata explained, including the uses of tatara iron smelting, furnaces, mechanical hammers, fire tongs and other tools, the carbon contained in iron, and how silicon carbide is made from straw ash and so on.

The children took part in the fold-back training, and everyone was delighted, taking pictures of them.
