Half-Day Cherry Blossoms &
Tulip Field Visit in Hamura
Tour Date: 25 -31 March, 1-15 April, 2024
We will take it to a place where it can expect to enjoy cherry blossoms and tulips at the same time. The Tama River in the Nishi-Tama region is a popular place for cherry blossom viewing, and one of these is the cherry blossom area in Hamura. The Tamagawa Josui cannel intake weir, a famous Japanese civil engineering heritage site, is nearby.
The annual Tulip Festival in the rice paddies, the most easterly rice production area in Tokyo, is a feast for the eyes, along with the Japanese landscape and water wheels.
Hamura is a fierce ramen battleground in the Nishitama region. After viewing the cherry blossoms, it can taste Hamura's ramen.

2. Hamura Weir
The Hamura Intake Weir, located approximately 54 km upstream from the mouth of Tokyo Bay, was constructed at the same time as the Tamagawa Josui* and completed in 1653. The Tamagawa Josui was built under the Shogunate's plan to draw water from the Tama River to Edo (old Tokyo Metropolis) due to the increasing population of Edo.
The weir was of a very unusual type: an iron girder was built at right angles to the river, with cedar logs hanging over the girder and logs set into the side, and the weir wall was constructed using sod (bundles of tree branches), gravel and other materials. The techniques (work processes) used since ancient times have been handed down to the present day.
